Following my last post offering a preview of our new kitchen doors, a number of the LWK Kitchens team have since travelled to Germany for training on all of our kitchen products and innovations that are newly available within our collections. This includes some of the exciting new kitchen gadgets and furniture ideas intended to facilitate kitchen use.
So now we have had the full German kitchen showroom tour, here are all of the new kitchen gadgets and innovations that are causing excitement in the LWK office, and which we can’t wait to share with our clients:-
1) Kitchen gadgets: Self-closing fridges
This may not be something you’ve given much thought to but it’s actually very easy to forget to close the fridge door (I’ve just got a new kitchen and already find myself guilty of this when taking items out the fridge) but the new self-close fridge eliminates this problem:
Whenever you open your fridge you allow heat to flow from the kitchen into the fridge space so the fridge has to work much harder to maintain its optimum temperature. Over time, this in turn will drive up the cost of your energy bills. Of course, leaving the firdge door open for a lengthy period will also cause food to spoil. (Find out more about energy saving in the kitchen here).
2) Sliding kitchen worktops
Sliding kitchen worktops are not new, but this sleek design is newly available in finishes other than stone. This includes a laminate option, which also makes it a less costly choice than the former, and there are 13 different colours to choose from. Designed for kitchen islands, these extend forwards, sideways, or else on a diagonal, to provide additional worksurface or seating when you need it, but retract back into place when you don’t:
3) Open shelving & sliding kitchen doors
Sliding worktops and now sliding kitchen doors…Yes, there is currently an emphasis on movable kitchen parts. The reason is this movement and flexibility makes kitchens more personal, facilitating our individual wants and needs within the kitchen. But more than this, the new sliding shelf doors are an impressive design feature. Whilst open shelving in kitchens is very on trend, these sliding doors ensure a combination of open and closed shelves; this adds visual appeal, as well as a fun twist to the kitchen’s look!
The new sliding doors work on rails and are available for any open shelf size:
4) Chalkboard splashback panels
Practical as well as fun, we have a new selection of chalkboard backsplashes and back panels.
Whether for notes, writing recipes, keeping the kids entertained or else left blank, these are a striking alternative if you want something a little different from the norm for your kitchen.
Similarly wallpaper-effect panels are also an option. Wallpaper is on trend for kitchens right now but unlike the real thing, these panels effect the same look but with a fuss free, wipe clean surface finish.
5) Touch sensitive colour changing lights
Over recent years, kitchen lighting has become so much more than a practicality, and instead is important for creating the look, mood and ambience we want for our homes. But given our preference can change at different times, and also as not every one has the same taste, we are now introducing LED colour changing lights which alternate between Daylight, Warm and Cool light tones. This means you can change your lighting according to your preference or mood. The light intensity and colour temperature are now easily changeable in kitchen spot lights, within illuminated handle strips for wall units, as well as the lighting of the moulded cornices in handleless kitchens.
The control is available within the choice of an external sensor switch, or else a wireless remote control. With the latter it is possible to go through the whole spectrum of cold and warm white tones using a single keystroke, while each selected lighting position remains dimmable. Once chosen, lighting scenarios can be saved to memory and then easily recalled at a later date with only the push of a button.
6) Kitchen gadgets: Concealed kitchen music systems
Music is an important part of daily life for many of us, and this extends to music in our homes and kitchens. But whilst music is welcome, unsightly cables and music systems cluttering our worksurfaces are definitely not! In recognition of this we are introducing a new Bluetooth kitchen speaker system, integrated and hidden within the kitchen plinth. Whilst you might think the plinth would muffle the sound, it doesn’t at all. In fact, on first introduction none of the LWK team could say with 100% certainty that the plinth was the source of the music- because the rich sound seemed to be coming from all areas of the kitchen (which is how you would want it). The base of the kitchen is used as a resonating body, but it is also possible to screw down both of the Exciters behind the hollow plinth space to produce sound via material vibrations. Issued ready to connect, this system is fast and easy to integrate, and suitable for very large as well as small kitchen spaces. Finally the music is easy to operate and change from a tablet or smart phone:
7) Laminate kitchen curves
Curves make a beautiful addition to a kitchen design but to date they have only been available within our more expensive kitchen door options….But not anymore! Our laminate kitchen doors can be hard to tell apart from some of our other finishes, which is why it is great to see the introduction of curves within this range, and which in turn makes them more widely accessible to homeowners.
8) Flush kitchen plinth
Plinth flush with the kitchen units is a new addition to our collections, and we were really impressed with this as an alternative look for kitchen furniture. It gives a solid look, more frequently seen within furniture outside of the kitchen such as tall cupboards and tv units. In turn, this means it would be a great choice in an open plan space if you wanted a continuation of your furniture’s look from one room into the next.
9) Base units with frosted glass
More and more kitchens are combining traditional with modern kitchen elements, and glass door fronts give an instant modern twist to more traditional kitchen styles. Glass also creates an extremely elegant look for any kitchen. With a dusting of glass door fronts both above and below the kitchen worktop you can create a flowing kitchen look. This can be further enhanced with internal lights to highlight the beauty of the finish, inside and out.
10) 35cm drawer pull outs
These pull out drawers are new in size and ideal for implementing on the back of a kitchen island. Previously this was a bespoke size which made them a slightly more expensive option but now they come as standard, and so cost less, whilst help you maximising on storage space within your kitchen.
