Kitchen project notes

The Challenge:

Located in the south of London, the clients wanted a kitchen design unique to them and which would complement the other final renovations taking place within their family home. Being a family with young children, our clients wanted a super functional German kitchen with a soft, warm and homely ambience. At the same time, they desired a sleek, modern and contemporary look.

The Design / Solution:

The Layout:

With the island in the centre of the room, it ensured comfortable movement around the kitchen, whilst allowing the parents to keep a watchful eye over their children…and of course the family dog!

The Units:

We suggested the use of warm, yellow-based colours to provide a modern yet friendly kitchen feel. Together we decided on a cream coloured kitchen door, and this colour’s strong tone added depth to the cabinets. At the same time, the chosen gloss surface emphasised an inviting finish. We also used a handle, rather than the handle-less kitchen door option. Whilst still effecting a modern look, the handles bring character and personality to the kitchen; this was preferable to the client over the super minimal handlesless systems that are associated with German kitchens.

The Worktop and Splashback

The worktops are a simple, warm Luna Quartz stone which complement the kitchen units and flooring. Due to the fact the clients had a dark slate floor colour, which is a feature on its own, we decided to keep the worktops as a light block colour. Limiting the colour palette in this way, was perfect for accenting the floor.

The clients also wanted to add some unique touches to their kitchen, emphasising it as a family home. We achieved this by including a personalized kitchen splashback, replicating a photograph that the client had taken herself.

Kitchen storage

The kitchen mostly includes base level storage. This allows easy access to all utensils and cooking equipment, whilst still keeping the kitchen nice and bright. The very popular and extremely useful Le Mans unit within this kitchen proved useful for extra storage space within an otherwise awkward kitchen corner.

Client verdict

The clients were really impressed with the outcome of this kitchen and looked forward to enjoying many happy years in their beautiful home.
