Kitchen Project Notes

The Challenge:

The client decided to keep the existing flooring, thus our challenge was to make sure that the kitchen peninsular didn’t overlap existing wooden flooring. Another challenge was to minimise fillers and utilise every possible corner, whilst incorporation a sleek and modern kitchen style and finish.

The Design/Solution:

Prior to the renovation, our clients had a wall which separated the dining and living space from the kitchen. As it was dividing the areas, it was also blocking natural light from the kitchen, that had no windows.

The wall was then knocked down to create an open plan space, and it immediately lit up the room. By having implemented the G shaped layout within this space, we were able to produce a stunning design for the open plan effect.

The Layout:

As earlier stated the long narrow room shape presented the challenge of designing a space maximising, functional, yet attractive kitchen. I suggested siting the dining area at the far end in the most open and brightest area of the space. This would make a practical and sociable setting for eating meals, with easy and fast access between kitchen and dining room, so much so that you can still converse from here with whoever is in the kitchen. As the owner had a young family this arrangement also meant they could keep their children in sight at the dining table but safely away from the dangers of the cooking zone.

The Units:

As there was no space for an island, we had to incorporate a peninsula in the design. Not only did the peninsula form part of the kitchen, it also increased worktop space. The 20mm Compac Glacier Quartz worktop that was installed, set against Basalt Grey matt units, created a perfect balance of contrast in this handleless kitchen.

Client Verdict:

The client was very much invested in every detail, but we have managed to achieve exactly what she was after. The client was very happy with the outcome of her project.
