Kitchen project notes

The Challenge:

This couple were both architects by profession so by the time they came to LWK Kitchens about their kitchen space they already had a very clear idea of what they wanted to do with it. They advised that neither of them cooked much and so the look of the kitchen was far more important to them than a practical cooking space. They wanted a statement white kitchen, with clean sharp lines for a sleek angular kitchen look. They also requested tall cupboards recessed into the wall to contribute to the minimalist streamlined look they wanted to achieve.

The Design / Solution:

As mentioned, the client already had a good idea of what they wanted for their kitchen and chose the white satin lacquer kitchen units to create a fresh and contemporary look. The handleless style was also selected for its uninterrupted, flowing lines, including the vertical channel handle for the tall units.

The Kitchen Island:

The clients specified early on that they wanted a square kitchen island with stools. We designed this in the same style and finish as the rest of the kitchen to continue the look, and ensured the stools would fit neatly underneath. Convenient pop up sockets were included, retracting out of sight when not in use to retain the streamlined finish. The island also housed the sink, dishwasher and a pull-out storage bin.

Kitchen storage

To be able to easily reserve the uncluttered minimalist feel, we included lots of storage options within this design, including a number of larder cupboards and deep pan drawers. Flap-up kitchen wall units provided further storage space for glassware and contained glass shelving, a compliment to the glass staircase at the entrance to the kitchen.

Special Kitchen Feature

The integrated black glass Induction hob has a seamless sleek finish but unusually, it was positioned beneath the glass window. This created a splashback feature piece out of the window. In planning this it was essential that toughened glass was put in place in order for it to work safely and prevent damage.

Client verdict

The clients felt the designers had achieved the minimalist stylish space they had envisioned and loved the clean fresh look of their new kitchen.
